![]() How to Vote by Mail:If you won't be in California to vote on November 4th, or even if you will, you can vote by mail. First, you have to register to vote just like everyone else (see above). Once you're registered, you can apply to receive a vote-by-mail ballot (formerly called an absentee ballot). Basically, you are sending a note to the government asking for a ballot. They'll send you a ballot, then you send it back to them and your vote counts! But all that back and forth takes some time, so you should get this going immediately. Here's how: Step 1 -- Fill Out the Form:
Download it HERE. We've already filled out the tricky parts for you. TYPE your info on the form, then print it. You can click directly on the PDF to type. You can also print the blank form and fill it out by hand. FIND THE ADDRESS for your county elections office HERE. You'll need that for the next step. Step 2 -- Mail It:
MAIL YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION to your county elections office immediately, since you still need to receive your actual voting ballot in the mail! You can just put it in a regular envelope with a normal stamp. Your vote-by-mail application must be received by the county elections official no later than 8pm on OCTOBER 28, 2008, to be counted!
TIP: Though your vote by mail application must be received by the elections office on OCTOBER 28, 2008, give yourself plenty of time. That's only seven days for the county elections office to process the application, the post office to return it to you by mail, you to fill it out, then return it to the elections office by mail again! Don't chance it! Mail your application today! Step 3 -- Mark Your Ballot:
Once you receive your vote-by-mail ballot, fill it out, mark YES on prop 8, sign and date it. Step 4 -- Mail Your Ballot:
ATTACH A STAMP and mail the completed ballot to your county elections office. You can find the address to your county's office HERE. Your ballot must be received by the county elections official no later than 8pm on NOVEMBER 4, 2008 to be counted!
TIP: If necessary, you can return your vote by mail ballot on Election Day to any polling place in person. For more details on registering to vote and voting by mail, visit the California Secretary of State website. |
