How the Yes on Prop 8 t-shirts were made: a grassroots story |
|
The "8" gender symbol log was designed for the "I DO" campaign on youtube by some folks that wanted to make a difference. They freely gave the art to me and I asked a rad chick right here in LA to design a couple of shirts.
Another rad chick took rad chick #1's designs and made t-shirt screens. Then rad chick #2 hand-screened our 4 prototype shirts for our photo shoot.
Rad chick #3 is a photographer and set up a photo shoot with four good lookin' folks. On set for that were rad chick #4 & #5 (stylists) and duuuuude #1 (assistant to the photographer).
Then I worked with rad chick #3 to get everything posted on the website and working through paypal. Rad chick #3 also found--by pure serendipity--a totally helpful, totally Republican, t-shirt printer in downtown L.A. who bumped us to priority level on all orders.
What's more amazing? EVERY person involved is a professional in their field and donated their services to the cause (except the models who are just great folks that support Prop 8 and the printer who had to cover their costs).
Also amazing: the total time from "Hey you can you design some shirts?" to "Hey, we're all set and we just ordered 1,000 shirts!" was just under 7 days. SEVEN DAYS.
Now, that's GRASSROOTS! Join the Facebook group: Rockin' my Yes on Prop 8 T-Shirt cuz it's soooooo grassroots.
